I'd recommend reading "The Power of Now". This book has changed my life. Random thoughts flying through your mind - TPON contains a deep understanding of the why and how. GTD is neat but this is the real deal.. you don't have to "believe" in this book, the truth speaks for itself. That's all ;)

Posted to: Acute Trackinosis - a horrible mental condition.

I played with this a little in script/console to see how it works. Regardless of what I have the default timezone set to be in the environment.rb file, Time.now pulls the system time. Time.now is ruby, so I can accept that. It still gets stored (and retrieved) as the system time, though. So I can't see that the default timezone has any bearing.

I'm going to have to dig deeper. Surely there is something that is painfully obvious that I am just missing.

Posted to: I heap scorn upon Ruby's Time class

I myself am attempting to "retap" or document the circumstances of my own flow. Sadly it has been nearly 6 or 7 years (my early twenties) since I have been able to sustain or at times even acheive flow for anything other than a hands-on artistic or creative task. I yearn for the moments when intangible theory and systems could inspire flow.

Posted to: Getting into Flow

@James
Mysql stores dates in the db without any timezone information. Rails uses the default timezone specified in your environment
config.activerecord.defaulttimezone = :utc or :local
when reading dates out of the db. On the way out of the db rails has no way of knowing how it should be handling that date.

That's why that happens, not that it doesn't suck (it could do some magic when storing it for instance).

Posted to: I heap scorn upon Ruby's Time class

There's a more serious issue with CFCOOKIE, described here: http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=tn_18100&sliceId=1

CFCOOKIE expects cookie-names to be all uppercase. When dealing with cookies set via JS oder with external apps, the name may actually be lower- or mixed-case and thus with CFCOOKIE you're stuck - CFHEADER is the only available workaround.

Here's a UDF that's quite useful in conjunction with this workaround, as dates are expected to be in GMT with http-headers:

 var TZ=getTimeZoneInfo();
 var GDT=dateAdd('s',TZ.utcTotalOffset,dTimeStamp);
 var sGDT=DateFormat(GDT,'ddd, dd mmm yyyy') & ' ' & TimeFormat(GDT,'HH:mm:ss') & ' GMT';

To get the expires-string for a cookie that's due to expire in 10 minutes, do something like that:
sCookieExpDate = getGMTTime(DateAdd("n", iRemoteCookieExp, now()));

Posted to: Cookies & CFHEADER

Its kinda weird but I get good flow from pepsi as well - its not just the caffeine cause coffee doesnt always have the same effect - if I have a project to complete I can usually get great results on a pepsi-induced flow state - has to be used in moderation though - the sugar alone can't be good for you

Posted to: Getting into Flow

75 megaflops was not a big deal in 1991. You could buy a machine called the GF-10 that would peak at 10 GFlops in 32-bit mode. I don't know if they ever sold one; it had to be cooled by liquid nitrogen. By a strange coincidence, 10 GFlops is about what I get in 32-bit mode from my dual-core Athlon 64 X2 4200+ (2.2 GHz).

Posted to: My 386-33 outperformed my Mac Pro
