<description>When I first saw your site linked from Slashdot I was like "oh man his server is so trashed". But man, it was flying. You should be giving mad props to your hosting provider.

It was pretty funny reading all the whining /.'ers complaining how they hadn't brought your server down yet.

<description>What are your server specs? I'd be curious to know what it takes to withstand slashdot! How much bandwidth did you use?

<description>The server is a 2.8GHz P4 with a 100MBit connection. Because most of my traffic was hitting MovableType (a largely static HTML app) CPU load was never an issue.

The day Slashdot hit I chewed up about 27GB of bandwidth, which is a lot. My bandwidth quota is around 1200GB a month, so in theory I could sustain that kind of traffic on a daily basis.

<description>Slashdot is always something I bring up with people talking trash about MovableType. Static pages have merit sometimes :). I've been through more than a few Slashdottings, and it is always nice to see the site still up.

<description>It's kinda tough to know how good a test this was of the high value keyword as content inspiration for a blog, because of the boing boing/slashdot effect.

I've been slashdotted before on a modest keyword ( .25 - .50 net per clickthrough ) and did very well with adsense that week just based upon sheer volume.

Assuming Adsense doesn't cry foul, or dissallow the earnings or send you a nasty gram, I'd be interested to see how well it performs the following month... or how well a non-publicized uber-valued keyword blog fares.

Good luck, it's certainly an interesting experiment.

<description>Thanks for actually posting some updates...it's been super interesting to follow this little experiment. I knew that Slashdot sent a lot of traffic, but that's *a lot* of traffic.

(an aside: TypeKey not working here? Gave me an error...)

<description>The Petri dish is spoiled, Michael. But you can just as easily try again with another topic. /. will forever mess up your numbers, b/c the topic will be around for years.

<description>Wow, what a good idea. What happened? I see a lot of asbestos and mesothelioma stuff going on.

There's this: www.everythingmesothelioma.com
And this: www.lawsuitsearch.com/diseases/mesothelioma.aspx

I heard rates dropped on the click prices. Dead keywords?
